Glenda
Ford understands what busy people are all about. She has been
a small business owner, entrepreneur, managing director, is a
mother, grandmother and last year finished her training as a Yoga
Teacher.
As
part of her Yoga teacher training Glenda spent time in India over
Xmas/New Year 2003/04.
Here
is a small account of Glenda’s experiences……
Our trip has been eventful and I have to say I have thoroughly
enjoyed it all. We got off to a shaky start after 18 hours of
air travel when we arrived into Bombay at 11.30 pm and were picked
up by the Ashram bus to drive the 6-7 hours back to the Ashram,
near Shirdy.
After
two hours we stoped at a road side cafe for a toilet break ...
soon after a mechanic turns up from somewhere to fix our brakes
(2.30 in the morning!) ... he really need not have bothered as
soon after we got on the road again we hit a traffic jam (apparently
25km long) and were stuck on the road for another 4 hours not
going more than 100 meters an hour ... we eventually arrived in
the Ashram at 3.30 that afternoon! But the welcome we got was
amazing!
We
got off the bus and the whole school 800 kids (aged 4 to 17) were
lining the streets to meet us - the band was playing and as we
got off the bus we were decorated with garlands of flowers and
had the red dot anointed on the eyebrow centre. All the saints
and monks were there to welcome us and anyone would have thought
that we were movie stars or sports heroes! We were all just blown
away ... little did we know that this was the sort of treatment
that we would get for the whole week we were there. Treated like
royalty, daily ceremonies in our honour. All of this was because
the Guru who ran this ashram (which is also a school) had visited
Australia for the first time last year and was treated like royalty
when he was here - so he was just returning the favour.
We
had a few trips away from the ashram, an overnight stay at Pune
to visit some holy places and attend some more ceremonies in our
honour - one of which over 2000 people attended while we were
paraded on stage with their Guru. The love and devotion that these
people have toward Omgurudev (that's the Guru's name) is absolutely
inspiring. He just wanted us to be happy, so everyone was happy
if we were happy!!!!
